One of Mara's responsibilities is to keep the supply cabinets stocked at work. She shops for coffee and janitorial supplies and orders office supplies as needed. Kristin needed to restock the paper towels in the ladies' room, so she borrowed Mara's key. At the end of the day, as Mara walked to her car to go home, she remembered she forgot to get the cabinet keys back from Kristin. She realized she would need them early in the morning to set up for a meeting.
She went back inside and found Kristin gathering supplies from the cabinet. She had collected several binders, packages of pens, and mechanical pencils, highlighters and spiral-bound notebooks. When Kristin saw Mara, she was startled. She explained she had been working so late the past week that she was unable to pick up school supplies for her kids, and school was starting tomorrow. Mara didn't know what to say. She knows Kristin works extra hours and doesn't ask for compensation, but does that make it OK to take supplies from work? Mara's employer entrusted her with the keys and made her responsible for supplies. What should Mara do?
No it doesn't make what she did okay. I honestly don't knw what I would do. That is a tough situation.. especially the problem that Kristin is facing. I would like to think I would say put it all back and maybe try and help her out. Give her some supplies that I don't use anymore at my house that her kids could use. Maybe let her off with a warning this first time. But let everyone know maybe just to keep a watchful eye on her or something around the workplace.
ReplyDeleteNo I don't think it makes it okay for her to take things. I would feel bad for her but also I would be upset that she was taking things from work. I wouldn't want her talking things from work, I would probably offer her some money for the supplies. I wouldn't tell on her right away I would just talk to her and warn her about it and tell her if she is caught again I would tell my boss.
ReplyDeleteUm no that's not okay. Mara should tell her boss and make Kristin give back the school supplies. I'd tell the upper management right away because if I held it back and just gave her a warning, I could get in trouble. I wouldn't want to lose my job because I felt bad for that lady. Maybe if i have extra stuff I'd give it to her for her kids but she shouldn't steal.
ReplyDeleteI don't believe that it is okay that Kristin took the supplies. I get that she works late, but then she should ask for help. I think that Mara needs to talk to someone and tell them what Kristin is doing. She needs help and if she isn't going to ask someone for it herself then someone should help her. I don't think that Kristin should take anything from the supply office without someones her permission. I kinda feel like Kristin took advantage or Mara and used her keys for her own good.
ReplyDeleteIt was not okay for Kristin to take those supplies. If she was struggling, she should have let Mara or somebody know. Everyone needs a hand sometimes. I'm not sure what I would do if I were Mara. It's difficult because the right thing to do would be to tell Kristin to put that stuff back, but I don't like when people are struggling. I would probably tell Kristin to put it back and try and find a way to help her get the things she needed for her kids. Maybe if Kristin talked to someone about it they could help her as well, but she shouldn't just take from the cabinet at her work.
ReplyDeleteI don't think Kristin was in the right. She should not have taken those supplies. I think Mara should talk to someone about it and tell them what Kristin is doing. She needs to be caught for that. I would tell her back and find a way to help her get things that she needs for her kids. Kristin should talk to someone and work it out.
