Annual Pork Management Conference The Pork Checkoff will host the 2015 Pork Management Conference, Your Pork Industry Investment, June 16-19 in New Orleans. This annual conference brings together experts from across the industry to speak on current business trends and challenges that help pork producers gain important insight and financial sophistication to manage their operation. The registration fee is $395 per person through May 29 and rises to $435 after that date. Through a legislative national Pork Checkoff, pork producers invest $0.40 for each $100 value of hogs sold.
March 1 to 4, US Wheat Association Director of Policy Ben Conner and Kansas wheat farmer Doug Keesling joined the U.S. Ag Coalition for Cuba. This is to learn about the issues for lifting the trade embargo. This visit had more than 95 U.S. agriculutural leaders. Keesling had high expectations before the trip.

Community Garden plots ready for 2015 In curtis, NE, gardeners and food producers can rent a garden plot for the 2015 season at the NCTA Community Garden in Curtis. The Horticulture Club students sponsor the garden plots located at the west end of the old football field. Plots are ready to use now. Sizes are 10 foot by 20 foot plot for $30 or a 10 foot by 10 foot for $15. The money goes towards the student club. Also, the NCTA Farmers Market begins September 5, 2015 after students return to college for the fall semester. Booth space will be rented for $30, or for $15 to individuals or groups who have a Community Garden plot.
NFB Honors FFA Advisors The Nebraska Farm Bureau Foundation for Agriculture (NFB Foundation for Agriculture) and the Nebraska Farm Bureau Ag Promotion Committee chose two recipients for the FFA chapter Advisors of the Year award: Jason Speck and Jeremy Vlasin of the Imperial FFA chapter. They were chosen based on their school and community involvement as well as their chapter accomplishments. Laura Schabloske said, "Both teachers are remarkable FFA advisors and spend countless hours working with their students to make them successful in all of their endeavors."
Record Number of Organic Producers in the U.S I chose this article because it reminded me of Julia Jones lol. In many of my interviews they asked me if people in aurora favored organic or GMO produce and I said that we sell a pretty equal amount of things at the mall. The article, though, said that organic farming is at a record high. It's still lower than normal farming, but the industry is on the rise! USDA is committed to connecting organic farmers and businesses with resources to ensure the continued growth of the organic industry.
