Leadership in the past meant the big football player on the football team because he "led" the team. Today it means getting along with everyone and leading them the right way.
When people normally think of leaders, they think of the stereotypical big athletic person. Anybody can be a leader. It takes those willing to stand up for themselves and others and do everything they can to benefit them.
I just think this quote means that anyone can be a leader. Anyone can stand up and lead the way and others will follow, you have to stand up for yourself no one can stand up for you.
This quote means that people used to think leadership was a stereotypical foot ball player or athlete or whatever, but now it means to be the person that leads the crowd in the right direction.
Leadership isnt just being able to lead someone with your muscles.. its actually being able to have people like you and want to follow you and do what you do.
You can't beat people up to guide them into the right direction. You have to be kind, patient, and knowledgable. I.e. FFA presidents can't punch people that don't show up at meetings, because it won't make them want to come. They have to, instead, encourage them to come to the next one.
You aren't just a leader because you are strong. You are a leader because you are good at what you do, you want to help others and lead them to do the right thing.
It use to be that who ever was the toughest was in charge. But now its whoever is more intelligent and can actually communicate with people who are leaders.
