The Case of the Illegal Puppy Dog
You're walking through the residence hall when you hear what sounds like a puppy yapping in one of the rooms . After knocking on the door, it turns out your friend Lilliana has an adorable puppy in the room . She informs you that the puppy belongs to her grandfather who is currently in the hospital and because the puppy can't be home alone, Lilliana chose to bring the puppy to the residence hall . She insists that the puppy will be gone tomorrow morning and goes on to explain the amount of stress she's under because of her grandfather's sickness . Lilliana knows you're a student leader and pleads with you not to tell anyone about the puppy . You like Lilliana and miss playing with puppies, so you tell her it's no big deal and play with the puppy for a few minutes .
About a week later, you overhear one of the students on Lilliana's floor complaining about a fine they got for cleaning expenses . Apparently, "Some chick brought a dog into the lobby and it crapped all over the place . Because she didn't have the guts to come forward, everyone has to split the cost of cleaning up the mess . This is so stupid!"
> What would you do?
I don't think I would say much about it to the person who said it. I think I would just say hey, I heard that there was a problem with some family members and she needed to keep it for a few days. Or I would confront the people privately and say hey her grandpa is really sick, there is a lot of stress being put on her and she just needed to keep the puppy a bit. If you get the chance, maybe help relieve some of that stress. And tell them to just help pay for it even though its not their mess. They need to help her out.
ReplyDeleteI would tell Lilliana's she needs to step up and take responsibility for what happened. If Lilliana wouldn't step up and take the fault for what her dog did I would probably tell on her because I don't want to pay for something someone else did. I love puppies and I know how it is to take care of your grandparents animals when they are sick because I had to take care of my grandpa's dog. Also I would offer to take the puppy to my house to help her take care of it.
ReplyDeleteI would maybe inform those people who were complaining about it that the girl who had the dog didn't have any other choices because of some family problems. Everyone has things that they go through. Plus, it wasn't like she was keeping it forever. She only had it for a day or so and it was just an accident. It could have happened to any of them. I would try and help that girl out by dog-sitting or helping with expenses or anything like that.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I would say anything about the girl. I would ask the people if their grandpa was in the hospital and his animal had nowhere to go what would you do. I don't think it was right of her to sneak the dog in since pets aren't allowed, but her circumstances were appropriate. I know that if my grandparents dog didn't have anywhere to go I would want to take care of it and help it. Maybe she should have tired to figure out a different way to take care of the dog.
ReplyDeleteI wouldn't say it was Lilliana's fault. She's under enough stress about her grandfather. Maybe I'm too empathetic, maybe I'm too nice. But she'd never done anything wrong to ME and if a profit hungry college does something that dumb, there's nothing I could do. The dog was gone, Lilliana's grandfather was still sick, and the fines were over. I'd try to help Lilliana, rather than add to her stress.
ReplyDeleteI would offer to pay for the cleaning costs. It's not Lillana's fault her grandpa was in the hospital. She needed to take the dog, and she was under stress. It would probably just add to her stress if everyone knew it was her who brought the dog in. It would have done no good to tell on her. Plus if you were to also play with the puppy it would also be partially your fault for not telling her it was a bad idea.
ReplyDeleteI would help or offer to pay for it because Lillian just needed somewhere to keep the dog. She was going through a hard enough time the way it is with her grandfather, and getting her dog taken away or having to pay it would probably really upset her.
ReplyDeleteHonestly if a puppy was crapping in my lobby of the building I would automatically tell who it was.
