1/27/15 Case Study (50 word min)

Harmless Request?

Gina Marie was recently hired to work as a receptionist for the front lobby.  The company she works for prefers that new hires start at reception and then work their way up.  As a receptionist, she is also responsible for making copies for company associates.  Her friend Bryson stopped by the office during his lunch break to ask her to make 300 copies for him for a college project.  he waited until the last minute to do this and needs them this afternoon.  he brought a package of printer paper from home, but she would still be using the company copier and company time to get it done.  If Bryson doesn't get the copies, he will fail this project.  The company copier does not require a security key, nor do they keep track of the copies made by departments.

What should Gina Marie do?

  1. I honestly wouldn't. Maybe help brainstorm some other ideas. She is new at the job and she shouldn't risk her getting fired. She is still using the company's ink, and ink is super expensive, so I don't think that would be the right thing to do. She needs to stay truthful to her bosses. Maybe if she really wanted to, she could ask someone higher up if she could help her friend out. That would show that she is trustworthy ad always asks people. But I honestly wouldn't. It's her friends fault that he didn't get what he was supposed to get done. He should learn from it.

  2. I don't think that I would help him. You just got this job and you can't afford to lose it. Yeah you need to be a good friend, but I don't think it is worth losing your job to help him. He should have thought about them before they are do that same day. I would try to help him to get it done, but I wouldn't want to risk a job that I worked to get just so he wouldn't fail. You can't lie to your bosses because then if they do find out then you are going to lose your job. Don't just say that you aren't going to help and he needs to find his own way, try to help in anyway possible that you can.

  3. I understand that Bryson is in a jam and really needs her help, but I wouldn't do it. She is new on the job and I wouldn't want to risk getting fired already. Plus that is taking up time that she could be using to do work-related jobs. I mean, she could ask her boss if he or she minded if she helped her friend out. That would be okay, but I wouldn't do it without asking somebody first. I feel bad for Bryson but it's his fault he procrastinated his project and is now stuck. He should learn to get his stuff done on time and there wouldn't be problems like this.

  4. I don't think she should do it. I understand that's it her boyfriend and she wants to make him happy but she could very possibly lose her job. She is new on the job and she shouldn't risk being fired for him. She could call her boss and tell him the situation but I don't think she should push he limit. Also Bryson needs to learn a lesson to not wait for the last minute.

  5. I don't think she should do it. I know that he needs her help but I wouldn't. She just started this job and she could risk ruining it and getting fired. Maybe if she asked her boss about it and if it matters if she helps but I wouldn't just go ahead and do it. It's Bryson;s fall because he procrastinated it and he needs to get it all together and learn his lesson.

  6. I'd probably help him. But I'd ask my supervisor or manager or whatever first, because I'd still be using company ink. He brought his own paper, and really, how long would it take? I could clock out and do it if it was a big deal. If my boss said no, I obviously wouldn't, though. Just depends, I guess.

  7. I would help him and ask supervisor because I still belong to the company and how bad could it be but if you dont want to help then turn away and clock out and go home and stay out of it.

  8. I would not help him. I would tell him go somewhere else because he was the one that waited last minute to do it.
