The Case of the Overnight Guest
It has come to your attention that some female students in an on campus house have invited a homeless woman to live with them . While there are four bedrooms in the apartment, only three of them were occupied prior to their guest, Cindy, moving in about a week ago .
When confronted about it, the students tell you that they asked their roommates and everyone said it was a great opportunity to serve someone in need . They tell you that they are aware of the overnight guest policy and are more than willing to pay the $15 charge per night for housing her .
They have become good friends with Cindy and feel she is very close to finding a job and turning her life around . She just needed a little bit of help to get over the last few hurdles . They have been in contact with various homeless shelters in the area and have been able to find some long-term support for Cindy once the school year ends in a month . The students want Cindy to live with them through the end of the semester and don't see what the big deal is .
> What are some potential problems with this idea? > What would you do?
Well she could kill all of the girls in the night, but that would be the worst case scenario. She could just be using the girls too for the food and shelter. She could just get up and leave on day and take a bunch of the girls' money and stuff. I don't feel like that would be a very bright idea. Maybe a night or so until you found a different shelter where she could go and figure her life out. I mean yeah its good to help those in need but you need to be careful too.
ReplyDeleteCindy could end up being psycho and going crazy on the girls. The girls could decide if they get low on money that they don't want to pay the $15 dollar fee. The girls would have to realize that it's a big commitment to house someone they have no idea about. It could be very dangerous. I would probably help Cindy out for a a week or so until she sort of figures things out, but not for the whole semester.
ReplyDeleteShe could start using the kids and not actually pay them, she might not get a job. When the school year is over she probably wont want to go back to a shelter and will want to stay with the kids. I am a very carrying person so I would want to help her to but I don't think I would let her live with me, I would probably take her to the shelter and help her find a job.
ReplyDeleteWell what if Cindy is just using them and steals all of their money right before the school year ends. Plus that money adds up quickly. Annnd Cindy could trash the house and they would have to pay for the damages.
ReplyDeleteI would pull some strings and fnd her a job and then just be moral support for her.
Cindy could be a crazy person who will freak out on the girls and hurt them or use them, or anything. Picking up a stranger is risky. Not saying that good things can't happen, for example, in The Blindside, when the family that rescued Michael, he was a genuinely good soul that needed some help. They might run out of money for their own needs by paying the $15/night thing, and if they stop paying it, they could get in trouble with the college. I mean, it's good to help people and it's cool that they did, but they should probably get Cindy out to the homeless shelter asap.
ReplyDeleteCindy could end up being a crazy serial killer. She could steal their money and stuff. And if she broke something then they would have to pay for it. I would just help her find a job so she could help pay for stuff. I would love to help her but I wouldn't trust that she wouldn't hurt or steal anything. People can fool you on who they really are. Be a good judge of character.
ReplyDeleteWell, there are a lot of things that could be wrong with this. They don't know Cindy they got her off of the street. Although it is a nice thing to do, but you don't know her enough to allow her to live in your house. I think that the girls should just send her to a place that she knows is meant for people like her. I know that they are trying to be nice and help a person that is in need, but you can't trust a person that you have never met before. I would love to maybe giver her some money to help her on the right track, however I don't think that I would allow her to stay in my house and pay the rent for her to do so.
ReplyDeleteI think it was a good decision to take her in Cindy is just like them and she needs to get help and someday she will find a job and get money to pay for her own things and people will not have to worry about unless she steals something which hobos are know for well some but thats not the point and help her until she can live on her own.
